I Get Ready in a Closet!

Makeup has been one of my favorite things as long as I can remember. It’s one of the things I collect (the others being books and shoes) that just pile up even if I’m not using it all. There is nothing more relaxing to me than sitting down every morning, throwing on my favorite podcast (Currently Crime Junkies, check it out) and getting ready for the day. Note I said, SITTING DOWN. I have never been that person to stand in the bathroom and get ready. I can’t do it. I get distracted to easily, and I’ll end up standing there for hours and honestly, I’m too lazy for that!
I’ve had so many set ups for all my makeup, starting with an overstuffed bag on the floor in front of the large mirror that I sat in front of. From there I knew I wanted a vanity but boy can those get expensive! I didn’t have hundreds to put into the project so I just got a coffee table from walmart and used that for a while while I still sat on the floor. After that I had different versions of desk with chairs and started to slowly add better ways of organizing the chaos. That is until our most recent move.

Once we got to our new home, we were pleasantly surprised with how much space we had. We got everything into the house and set up just how we liked it until I started unpacking my makeup and realized I didn’t have a place to put it. It would either be in the way or in a place that I would have space for everything to stay together. That’s when A pointed out this random hallway closet. It didn’t have any shelves in it, so it couldn’t be used to store anything other than bags or his army gear which was already going in a different closet.
At first glance, I thought he was crazy. What could we possibly do with this closet, it wasn’t tiny but it wasn’t a room. I was so very wrong! A took of the door and that alone, made it seem like it would be perfect, we just needed to get creative with storage and what we would put in it. What better place to go to for furniture for a compact space than Ikea?! We just happened to be 30 minutes from one! So after a 2 hour adventure to my favorite store! We ended up with everything we needed, plus more!

What we got: (Everything in white)
1 x Large floating desk/ the EKBY ALEX ($69.49)
2 x Small floating shelves/the LACK ($7.99 each)
1 x Mirror/ the STORJORM ($69.99)
1 x board w/ 2 clips, & 2 pen holders /the SKADIS ($14.99/ $2/ $2)
1 x trio of fake plants (A insisted on it, as it would “bring life to the room”)/FEJKA ($9.99)
If you have ever shopped at IKEA, you know they also sell tool kits that have everything you need just to build their furniture, so just to save time and effort, we got that too!
Everything worked perfectly in the room and was pretty easy to put together, until we got to the mirror. This was the last thing and we realized we made a slight error but luckily found an easy fix! The mirror we got has a built in light in it, which is perfect! It’s the perfect light to use to apply makeup because it doesn’t cast an unnatural warm glow! BUT, it wasn’t a regular mirror. It was a bathroom mirror, meant to be wired into the wall. After some quick research, we found a YouTube video that showed us how to rewire it so that we could just plug it into the wall like a normal light and so we did just that!

All in all, I absolutely love my little space. Everything has its space, and even as I gain more makeup I will have the shelves to put it on! Also, the little white trolley? I already had that! I used it at my past job and it was just sitting there, so now it holds all of my hair stuff, starting with what I use the most at the top. I do have to move it out of the way to get in the drawer on that side, but its on wheels so its super easy!
And thats that! Eventually, I can do a video on what it looks like more in depth, as well as how all the makeup is stored! If you would like to see that or have any thing else you would like to see, comment below!
